Sparkle provides prompt assistance during the TLC outage
During the recent telecommunications outage caused by breakdowns in major Mediterranean cables, clients of Telecom Italia Sparkle, the Telecom Italia Group's international carrier, were able to re-route traffic via Sparkle's network and thus quickly restore services. As these clients include the majority of key Asian and Middle Eastern carriers, Sparkle's involvement made a significant contribution to the overall resolution of the crisis.
The breaches in two intercontinental, underwater cables off the coast of Alexandria, SEA-ME-WE-4 and FLAG, knocked out around 60% of India's internet traffic and close to 70% of Egypt's.
Telecom Italia Sparkle was able to deliver prompt solutions leveraging its resilient global network both westbound via Palermo, Sicily, and eastbound via Singapore and Los Angeles, USA. In the first 24 hours of the crisis, Sparkle implemented total bandwidth in excess of 15 Gbps over its alternative proprietary routes.
Stefano Mazzitelli, the CEO of Telecom Italia Sparkle, said:
"Once again we provided prompt assistance under challenging circumstances, just as we did in December of 2006 during the Taiwan earthquake emergency. This reaffirms Telecom Italia Sparkle's key role in the Mediterranean basin where most of the global infrastructures linking emerging economies to Western Europe converge".
