Sparkle Academy: the training programme for international telecoms partners launched in Palermo

The city mayor Lagalla: “An initiative that confirms our city’s increasingly strategic role in the field of digital innovation and international telecommunications”

Sparkle, the first international service provider in Italy and among the top global operators, has chosen the Sicily Hub in Palermo to relaunch the Sparkle Academy, a training program for international telecoms operators, dedicating the first edition of the new course to partners in Africa and the Middle East. Sparkle thus reaffirms its commitment to Sicily for its privileged location which makes it a bridge to the countries bordering the Mediterranean both in terms of technology and in terms of culture and training. It is precisely in Sicily that Sparkle has developed, through its poles in Palermo and Catania, the Sicily Hub, one of the top internet hubs in the Mediterranean, heart of technological innovation and gateway for the exchange of data traffic between Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

The initiative finds its roots in a project launched twenty years ago, with the aim of transferring technical and managerial expertise to the telecommunications sector in the regions where Sparkle’s presence is historically and commercially significant. Over the years, the program has seen growing international participation, gradually extending to Asia, Central and South America and the Middle East.

The Sparkle Academy is also in line with the Mattei Plan, the Italian government’s program for cooperation with African countries, thus underlining Sparkle’s commitment to contributing to the continent’s digital development through the transfer of specialist expertise.

Through this project, Sparkle offers its strategic partners a comprehensive training program combining classroom lessons, professional development and on-the-job training, with both technical and business content. The aim, in addition to strengthening relationships with partners and consolidating Sparkle’s standing in the sector, is to equip participants with the tools needed to understand, anticipate and respond effectively to the challenges of a constantly evolving international telecommunications market, creating an opportunity for the exchange of diverse experiences linked by the common thread of technological development.

The Mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla welcomed the launch of the project: "I am delighted that Sparkle has chosen to relaunch the Sparkle Academy from Palermo. This initiative confirms our city’s increasingly strategic role in the field of digital innovation and international telecommunications, also thanks to the presence of the Sicily Hub, one of the main gateways to data flows in the Mediterranean. This project is fully in line with the policies the City Council is pursuing to promote digitalization, attract talent and foster the growth of the knowledge economy. Palermo and its metropolitan area are now among the top in Italy for data traffic, and the city is increasingly recognized as one of the country’s capitals for digital nomads as well as an international benchmark for innovation and quality of life. I would like to thank Sparkle for choosing Palermo as the venue for an initiative that invests in skills, knowledge exchange and new opportunities for development and cooperation in the Mediterranean."
