MedNautilus, the Mediterranean operations of the Telecom Italia Sparkle Group, and Cyta announce a new sub-network system connecting Israel to France

Cyta and MedNautilus, the Mediterranean operations of the TI Sparkle Group, the international services arm of the Telecom Italia Group, are pleased to announce that the new TELMAR subsystem connecting Tel Aviv to Marseilles is now operational.

The TELMAR subsystem leverages the recently upgraded LEV cable, connecting Israel to Cyprus, provides new multiple wavelength links between Israel and France and represents a new connectivity option created to serve the growing need for diversification of the Israeli market, in addition to the existing MedNautilus ring configured backbone.

“Israel is a very relevant market to MedNautilus where we intend to maintain our strong positioning, as well as in the whole Eastern Mediterranean region, by continuing to invest and enhancing our proposition, and therefore supporting the increasing demands of our customers in the area,” says Zvika Caspy, TI Sparkle Executive Vice President Sales for Europe”.

“Through Cyta’s extensive international telecommunications infrastructure, comprising multiple submarine cable systems connecting with neighbouring countries and other international destinations, Cyprus currently constitutes a major telecommunications hub in the Mediterranean region. The new TELMAR subsystem provides both Cyta and MedNautilus with business opportunities to access new markets,” says Yiannis Koulias, Cyta Director National & International Wholesale Market.

Cyta and MedNautilus intend to use existing Cyta’s MINERVA cable subsystem and MedNautilus cable facilities in addition to TI Sparkle’s Pan European Backbone to offer protection to TELMAR. To this perspective, the parties will upgrade the MINERVA subsystem with more 10Gbps wavelengths which will also be employed to increase Cyta’s current IP connectivity to TI Sparkle’s IP Backbone Seabone in Catania. Cyta and MedNautilus also intend to lit-up a new fiber of the MedNautilus system connecting Haifa to Pentaskhinos, in order to create the first fiber ring network between Israel and Cyprus.
